Hello again Racing Ears,
Well here is a great treat that I hope you all will enjoy. I stumbled across this iconic beauty this weekend at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, California. This is the iconic 1966 Ford GT 40 Mark II that was liveried just like the #2 car that Dan Gurney drove in 1966 at the 12 Hours of Sebring. According to Wikipedia the #2 Dan Gurney car was disqualified because of Dan Gurney’s attempt to push his car across the start finish line, which was deemed illegal.
Anyway, the owner is Mr. Mark Siegel and he was very gracious and kind to allow me to put my recorder in his passenger seat to record his shake down session in late afternoon on an extremely hot day. I offer many thanks as well to the mechanic who suggested the hole in the passenger seat to place my recorder with some styrofoam for padding. His suggestion was very thoughtful indeed and proved to be very successful. This journal-cast includes sounds of the 7.0 liter Ford GT 40 engine starting up, then going out for laps on circuit, and then a short interview with Mr. Seigel.
This was a great opportunity to capture such a historic and iconic racing car. Many thanks again to Mr. Siegel and his crew for helping me capture these sounds.
Thank you all for your continued support of The Racing Ear Journal.
